#4: Review of NY Times Fashion Blog

I found this NY Times blog entry, called "A Touch of Fetish" by Ruth La Ferla, very interesting. La Ferla uses numerous fashion terms and language in order to describe garments so that it is easy for the reader to picture and imagine them. It was very clear to me what La Ferla was describing, and I didn't need images to help me picture La Ferla's descriptions. Below is an excerpt of "A Touch of Fetish" by Ruth La Ferla:

Some terms Ruth La Ferla uses to describe fashion are:

1. Silhouette/Design:
"Harnessed and corseted looks", "harness dresses", "leather bandeau bra", "a backless leather apron", "banded knee-high boots", "tall, multi-strap gladiators"

2. Details:
"Graphic bands of silk and leather, held together by gossamer threads", "hips draped in chains and legs sheathed in tightly laced bondage pants", "displaying a welter of harnesses and straps every which way"

3. Color:
Black Leather

4. Fabric:
Leather, silk

5. Creative Jargon:
"Urban chic", "butter-wouldn't-melt uptown image", "Injecting their collections with the straps, cuffs, leather bras, and other fetishy touches"

  1. I agree with what you said about the blog. It was very descriptive and I didn't need to look at any pictures to know what the writer was talking about.
